Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) manages Canada's diplomatic and consular relations and encourages the country's international trade.
DFAIT is responsible for Canada's ongoing role as a Member State of the United Nations through the Mission of Canada, which is the primary channel for communications between the Canadian government and the United Nations in New York City. The Mission acts as diplomatic representation for the Government of Canada abroad.
In December 2009, DFAIT announced Canada's support to the UN resolution on the role of co-operatives in social development, which also proclaimed 2012 the International Year of Co-operatives.
