Canadian National Sector Committee
The Canadian National Sector Committee on the International Year of Co-operatives is made up of 28 representatives of Canadian co-ops, credit unions and co-operative associations, as well as Michaela Huard, executive director of the federal government's Rural and Co-operatives Secretariat. The purpose of the committee is to provide high-level recommendations, input and feedback on pan-Canadian initiatives and champion the objectives and messaging relating to the International Year. As recognized leaders of the Canadian co-operative movement, this group will help build support, enthusiasm and participation in IYC activities within different sectors, provinces and organizations, as well as at the national level.
The committee held its first meeting of the International Year on February 2, 2012, reconfirming the three priorities they established for IYC in Canada back in August 2010: generating awareness of co-operatives, creating a supportive environment for co-operative development, and creating legacies that will live beyond 2012. The committee also appointed an advisory group to provide ongoing advice to CCA and CCCM on activities for the International Year.
